Ask Lucedale #1 : Simple Vintage Look (Pants / Trousers)

Question :
I'm a newbie on vintage fashion, and sometimes I don't know how to get the oldies / vintage look because I don't really wear dress or skirt, and I'm a little shy to wear layers. I study in the university so I also have limited time to dress-up. How to get the vintage look instantly? Do you have a tip or reference for someone like me?

Answers :
Hi Andrea, I used to face the same trouble when going out in a rush minutes, trying to catch on my classes in the uni. No time for extra styling plan. But to get an 'old' or 'vintage' impression is not that complicated actually - sometimes what you need is to have several 'essential' vintage-looking items on your closet. I suggest you to focus on the bags and shoes, because they could really make a big difference! Put any classic leather shoes and grab messenger styled bags is my example today. I also tend to choose pastel and soft basic colors for my outfit. So basically I just need to put on my knitted loose top over a casual chinos as the bottom, then grab my daily leather shoes (this time its Oxford loafers style, from Popflats) and get my stuff collected inside my roomy messenger bag that also has leather accent on its straps. Hats can be added too if necessary - you just need to pick anything that already has retro/vintage vibe. And colors can be moderated in your own taste, as well as the top (can be either cotton blouse, chiffon shirts, or oversized sweater and even cropped tee!). It's simple but classy, plus I think safe enough if you're still pretty new to the vintage clothing and wanted to avoid looking tacky. Start with a simple pairing, then you'll learn how to put another layers :)
